The Things I Google for My Books (Send Help)

Plus an update on my writing

Hey Reader,

Writing books is a wild ride, but nothing exposes an author’s chaotic brain quite like their search history. Case in point:

🧐 "How many times can the same word be used before it becomes repetitive in a book?"
😬 "Other ways to say cum in a sex scene?"
🎨 "What colour is auburn?"
🇬🇧🇺🇸 "Is this American or British spelling?"
📆 "What year were twenty-eight-year-olds born?"
🗽 "Is New York a state?"
🐖 "How many pigs does it take to eat a human body?"

…Look, I promise I’m just writing fiction (and totally not on any watchlists… probably).

The things we do for our characters! If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of my books, well—now you know. My Google search history is a beautiful disaster, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Hope this gave you a laugh! What’s the weirdest thing you have ever Googled?

These were all questions I had while writing my new series of standalone dark romances. Each book centres around a new couple and contains characters who don’t shy away from the darkness within… they embrace it.

Be prepared for:

  • Morally grey characters

  • Revenge plotlines

  • Men who are obsessed with their women

  • Strong heroines that don’t need saving (though they may accept help sometimes)

  • Humour as a coping mechanism for trauma

Book one is done and going through professional editing! Book two has almost got a completed first draft, which means I’m nearly at the dreaded self editing stage—yuck! And book three is about five chapters into draft one. So it’s progressing well.

I can’t wait to start sharing this series with the world!

Until next time,
Olivia Jane
